Now that we know just how bad your water probably is, you don’t want any of those poisons going into your garden. And, like I said above, there are two basic ways to water your garden with clean, pure water. Filtering your water and using rainwater. You may as well do both.
But what’s the best way to catch rainwater without putting a big hole in your wallet buying a complicated reservoir system? It’s easy as a can of corn. Here’s what you’re gonna need and do:
Woodworking Warning: Don’t Buy Any Furniture Plans Until You’ve Seen This! >>
- Buy 30-gallon trashcan with a lid on it.
- Drill a hole to fit your garden near the bottom of the barrel.
- Attach the hose to the hole in the barrel with an adapter and seal with caulk or other wa- terproof sealant. This is the hose you’ll use to water your garden.
- Drill another hole near the top of the barrel pretty much on the opposite side of the barrel as the first hole. Again, attach a garden hose with an adapter and seal. This will be your overflow hose.
- Finally, while you’re getting your barrel, pick up a few feet of rain gutter piping. This is what you’ll attach to your rain gutter. Position the barrel near your house, divert the rain gutter with the piping you just got and direct it to the lid. Cut a hole in the lid of the barrel to the shape of the rain gutter and attach the rain gutter to it.
One thing to do is to make sure your rain gutters are clear of debris. You want them to allow the free flow of rainwater. Now you’ve got a free, natural source of pure water for your organic garden.
